If you practice mindfulness-based approaches to stress reduction, pain management, for other conditions or for general wellbeing, you might have an interest in learning more about the Buddhist roots of these approaches in their ancient and enduring context.

Understanding the meditations such as the body scan, mindfulness of breathing, or open awareness within their Buddhist context can significantly enhance your appreciation of these practices, and deepen them.

In this course, connections will be drawn out between modern mindfulness and teachings including: the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, Samatha (concentration) and Vipassana (insight) meditation, the Three “marks of existence”, the Four Noble Truths and the Eight-Fold Path. We will explore these through meditations and mindfulness exercises, experiential learning, group discussions and teaching inputs.

Note: This course is hosted by the Triratna Buddhist Community of Greater New York
